Tell us about yourself?

My name is Nadia Al Sheikh & I’m Jordanian whose been living in Singapore for 12 years and i consider it my second home. I’m an entrepreneur by profession the founder of Flenco a wellness & the owner of “flen” a natural skin care brand that combines Dead Sea minerals & Chinese medicine sold on Asian eCommerce sites such as Lazada & internationally on Amazon. My latest venture Deal’n a lucrative business module that incorporates philanthropy with eCommerce.

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Throughout my work with local NGO’s and the more I interacted with vulnerable members of  my community, the more I realized the need to make a difference in empowering them through providing them with opportunities & solutions to improve their standard of living. As I believe education is empowerment, I pursued my higher education with a masters degree from INSEAD in Consulting & Coaching for Change in order to have the right tools to better serve my community.

During my studies the seeds for Deal’n were being planted, a collaboration between my Son who was pursuing his studies in the United Kingdom and myself. As we both are humanitarian by passion, who believed in the power of each action regardless of how small it might be.He represented the future, as problems seen by the youth that needed to be addressed & helped me to integrate it into Deal’n vision & mission.

How much potential market share can you achieve in next 3 years?

As we don’t have a main competitor and we’re pioneers in the market, introducing a new concept we should easily achieve 70% market share as it’s normal once you succeed to have similar platforms emerging.

What was the best book or series that you’ve ever read?

The Prophet by Jibran Khalil Jibran, is one of my favorite books that  keep reading and every time I’m enchanted by the narrative and words of wisdom.

What is the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?

I’m a bookworm, therefore books are always my best purchases as after i finish reading them I always share them with friends! As for my worst purchase i couldn’t think of one item! I have a list of worst purchases to sum them up it’s whatever I don’t use & regret!

What takes up too much of your time?

As a single mother whose son is doing his masters in the UK, I have to say it’s work. But always my family and friends are my priority.

What three pieces of advice would you give to college students/new startup business owners who want to become entrepreneurs?

  • Be passionate about your idea, passion is like an-endless flow of energy, if you have it  you’ll never feel you’re working, you’re pursuing your dream!
  • Believe in yourself and put a plan of small achievable goals towards realizing your dream. This will keep you self motivated at times when others don’t believe in you or support you!
  • Assertiveness & hard work are vital for your success. But remember you need the right team! Invest in others that believe in your vision & mission and make them partners so that your dream becomes theirs as well! They will not be employees they will become your asset & the pillars of your business.

Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?

Those who can manage with so little but once given the opportunity are capable of so much. They are hidden gems, in every community and I’ve been honored and privileged to interact with them through Deal’n and every time I get empowered by their capabilities, creativity and learn from their assertiveness & hard work.

Tell us about something you are proud of – about your greatest challenge.

The greatest challenge I’ve faced is as a single mother trying to Balancing work and my responsibilities to provide my son with a loving, supportive family environment. Overcoming personal struggles in order for him to have a healthy emotional development by involving his father in his every day life. After 12 years every time I look at him and he puts a smile on my face & everyday he makes me proud!
