An exclusive interview with Sherry Cheong, Business Owner of Sensedebelle. She is an inspiration for many women who want to do great things with their lives. According to Sherry, “Sensedebelle is the perfect haven to achieve aesthetic results with pampering hands and caring hearts”
I am Independent, ambitious, strong-willed and relentlessly committed is what I believe are the characteristics that best describe me. I enjoy the daily challenge of a quality entrepreneurial venture, which does a great job at not solely focusing on its success and the development of its team & expansion of its market position, but the added value and quality of life improvement that it can provide to people all over the world.
I love challenges, and even more so find it rewarding when we are able to, as a company, add significant value to or change our client’s lives for the better.
The daily challenges, tasks, hard work and dedication which is required of me are all parts of my career that I enjoy tackling, as they’re perfectly suited to my character.
However, changing someone’s life for the better and working in a strong, committed, cooperative team that is firmly focused on growing together dedicated to our mutual vision of delivering extraordinary quality to clients is what I find most rewarding.
How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
When I was younger, I was a model and a beauty queen that took great care of her body and skin. It was like second nature to me. Finding new beauty and skincare products was my hobby and I loved using lotions, creams and serums in order to have a glowing, healthy and radiant complexion.
Let’s fast forward a few years. As many of you already know, your body starts to change after you have children. And that’s exactly what happened to me. I’m a proud mommy of 2 adorable kids but during my pregnancy, I gained over 30kg. It was something I never expected. And after the birth of my second child, I started having problems with adult acne. It was my body’s way of saying that I need to take care of myself more. That’s when I started to have in-depth research about specific skincare ingredients and beauty products, slimming techniques and fitness. I wanted to regain my lost confidence and start taking care of my body. After 2 years of research, hours of exercise and trips to the various countries in order to find new ingredients and explore the traditional beauty techniques, I decided to share my experience with every hard-working, busy woman out there.
That’s how Sensedebelle was born!
How much potential market share can you achieve in next 3 years?
I will rather focus on how many lives can we improve and how many satisfied clients can we reach in the next three years. I believe hundreds of thousands.
Regarding the market share? Let’s leave that to analytics experts.
What was the best book or series that you’ve ever read?
Despite risking sounding cliché, classics such as “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “The Great Gatsby” are really hard to surpass.
What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?
The best purchase will be the investment in real estate during the economic downturn in 2008 as there has been decent rental yield and capital appreciation over the years.
I believe there is no worst purchase, just that mindset and priorities changes at different stages in life. My love for designer goods and luxury cars would have provided a much better rate of return if funds were allocated to more properties instead.
What takes up too much of your time?
Running and growing Sensedebelle takes up the largest chunk of my time, but I can’t say it’s “too much” as I love doing it and find it extremely rewarding!
What three pieces of advice would you give to college students/new startup business owners who want to become an entrepreneur?
Be brave, have a clear vision, don’t give up when you start implementing it and things don’t always go your way. If you persist, you’ll see it realized.
Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?
In broader terms, you can’t help but admire the great heroes such as Nikola Tesla, Isaac Newton, scientists who have changed the course of civilization with their discoveries, Helen of Anjou, world’s first feminist, a queen that has fought for and succeeded in establishing women’s schools as far as early 13th century , early fashion icons such as Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel…
Tell us about something you are proud of – about your greatest challenge.
Successfully starting and growing Sensedebelle, having a committed, qualified team that loves the company and is focused on growing it, and successfully serving thousands of clients by giving them exactly what they want.
