Later, he relocated to Los Angeles and decided to do something that he always wanted to do. He struggled a lot though but in the end, he became famous. He started working as a stand-up comedian and actor.
Adam Devine started doing standup comedy when he was about 15 to 16 years old hardly. He went to Kansas with poorly made Fake ID cards and performed in an open mic night at their comedy club.
From that day, he decided to pursue his career as a comedian. His ultimate motivation to do comedy has always been Jim Carrey. He was so inspired by him that he used to copy his style.
How Tragedy Had Befallen Him
When Adam Devine was just 11 years old, he was trapped in a long battle where his life took a major turn. In June 1995, Devine was crossing a road in Omaha on his bicycle in a daytime.
After waiting for 3 cement trucks to move, he was hit by a fourth lorry that had been previously halted by opposing traffic. He slipped 500 feet under the front two wheels of the 42-ton truck. He was knocked out, experienced severe shock, and lapsed into a coma.
He was taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit, in which he awoke two weeks later. He’d shattered every bone in both legs, seemed to have a collapsed lung, and also developed many infections.
Her mother had higher hopes because it was unclear whether he would ever walk again. He underwent 26 operations over the course of many years and spent most of his days in a wheelchair.
Being in grave danger of having his legs amputated and also suffering from multiple organ failures due to the severity of his injuries, Adam Devine got really depressed.
It was later revealed that he was spared death because his bicycle was able to withstand the full power of the vehicle and he was saved. Otherwise, he could have died tragically.
Devine’s perspective on the environment might be affected by the horrific incident, and he took an interest in humor as a means to cope with the bullying he was facing as a result of the tragedy.
Devine had to walk with a cane after a year. Penny, Adam’s mother, noted that humor helped him get through the ordeal. He utilized his sense of humor to build his persona even more since he didn’t like being picked on.
His fondness for humor paid out in the end. Devine recovered completely after 2 years of continuous therapies and 24/7 care, however, his legs are still scarred. He would phone into his local radio show to delight himself and others by impersonating superstars.
When he returned to school, he was bullied, but he used jokes to shift the focus away from his scars. All of this, he subsequently stated, led to his view of humor as a means of bringing humans closer.
Devine created the sketch comedy ensemble Mail Order Comedy with pals Blake Anderson, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck in 2006. While they went on tour together in person, they were more successful on social media platforms like Myspace and YouTube.
Subsequently, those sketch shows led to DeVine landing his first significant part, which many fans still remember him for. Workaholics, a show created by Adam DeVine, premiered on television in 2011.
DeVine was a great fan of the series, not just because he starred in it but also because he co-created it.
In the 2012 musical comedy movie Pitch Perfect, he played Bumper Allen. He got a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Villain and was nominated for Choice Movie Breakout for this effort.
Adam Devine’s House Party officially premiered in October 2013, which was his own Comedy Central program. He also played Andy, the Pritchett family’s babysitter, in seasons 5, 6, and 7 of the ABC network sitcom Modern Family.
