Tell us about yourself?

My name is Adrian Rubin. I run a freelance creative design studio in the heart of Brooklyn and I’ve been doing business here for over 10 years. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ve always had a flair for the creative so being able to successfully perform the job I love in such a beautiful city is a dream come true for me.

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Well, I believe in doing what you love and letting the world show you the path to success. I’ve been honing my craft since I got my first sketchbook at 6 years old. I got my degree in art and design and immediately set to work. Eventually, I started picking up design jobs here and there for the people who had seen my work around town, and I developed a steady stream of business from their word of mouth. Now I don’t have to worry about sales or marketing because my work speaks for itself.

What’re your company’s goals?

My goal is and always will be to perform work that I can stand behind and be as helpful as possible for my clients. A lot of times a business owner will come to me with a vague concept but really have no idea what he wants to accomplish. It could be brand recognition, curb appeal, or just someone looking to find a way to stay relevant. I tell my clients to have faith in my methods and I work to the best of my ability to make their vague concept a reality.

How do you market your business? How are people aware of your business?

Honestly, marketing is almost an afterthought for me at this point. I’m an active member of the community and between my own networking and word of mouth, I have all the work I need. I’ve taken the approach of letting my brand stand out and letting my work speak for itself. The rest will follow.

How do you advertise your business?

My approach to advertising is similar to my approach to marketing. To those who know what to look for, my branding and promotional work are quite unique. The work I do is all the advertising I’ve really needed.

What made you choose this type of business?

It really wasn’t much of a conscious choice for me. I’ve never been one to sit around and worry about who I am or what I should be doing. I’ve always had that fire burning inside that told me to get out and create. For me, this is just doing what comes naturally.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Find your creative voice and develop it any way you can. If you don’t have any work coming in, that’s no excuse not to be working. You should set aside some time every day to hone your craft and develop your skills because when the clients come you’ll want to have already found your style.

Why do your customers select you over your competitors?

Well, frankly I think it’s because I do my own thing. I don’t cold call, I don’t sell, I don’t hype myself up, I just create. I’ve found that often when a customer comes to me they’ve already tried the traditional agency approach and they’re tired of being told what they have to do and how they have to do it. I’m not gonna sit down with someone and tell them no. Instead, I’m going to do everything I can to use my unique style and bring their vision to life.

If you had your time again, what would you do differently?

Not a thing. I love what I do, I love the people I work with, and I love the city I call home. There’s a creative flow here in Brooklyn that breathes life into everything I do.

How can people connect with you?

I try not to make myself too available. I work locally and focus on personal interactions rather than sit behind a desk or on my phone all day. If anyone wants to connect, they can reach out through but I can’t make any promises. If you’re serious about getting my attention, try to create something locally that will speak to me. If you do, I’ll find you instead.
