For a deep dive into how to pick the best monitor, below are some quick buying tips.

Quick Buying Tips to Consider:

When intending to buy the best gaming monitor for your PC, consider the following:

  • G-Sync or FreeSync: G-Sync only operates with PCs with Nvidia graphics cards, while FreeSync only operates with systems using AMD ones. FreeSync monitors serve to be cheaper, but performance is comparable. You can technically run G-Sync on a FreeSync-only monitor, but performance is not guaranteed.
  • Viewing Angle: While most people play games right in front of their gaming monitor, this is not always the case, particularly when there is an audience. A monitor’s viewing angles show you what angle you can look at the monitor from and still make out a clear image. The closer these numbers are to 180, the more satisfying your viewing experience will be when standing distant to either side of the monitor or watching at it from above or below.
  • For image quality, TN < IPS < VA: Typically, TN monitors are the most durable but cheapest due to inadequate viewing angles. IPS displays have slightly more delayed response times but better color than VA monitors. The best gaming monitors for contrast are VA, but VA also has slower response times.
  • Panel type: This is where things get a little technical. The type of panel a gaming monitor uses will largely contribute to its response time and image clarity. TN (twisted nematic) panels, which are usually more affordable, have the lowest response times but typically do not come with excellent viewing angles. On the other hand, IPS (in-plane switching) panels have great viewing angles and color reproduction but usually have higher response times. Meanwhile, VA (vertical alignment) panels are between the two, although their slow response times make these panels rare in the gaming world.
  • Refresh rates: bigger is better. This shows you the number of times your monitor updates with new information per second — stated in hertz (Hz) — and, therefore, how many frames per second (fps) the monitor can display. More significant numbers equal smoother images. Refresh rate is significant for gamers, so you will want to shoot for a monitor with at least 75 Hz (most gaming monitors offer at least 144 Hz), linked with the lowest response time you can find.
  • Screen size: When searching for a gaming monitor, one of the most significant things to reflect is the screen size. Larger display sizes can direct to more immersive gaming experiences as the game fills more of your field of vision, but you will also have to make sure that you have the space to keep a large monitor. And, it goes without saying that the larger the monitor, the more expensive the price as well.
  • Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio of a gaming monitor assists in determining the display’s width and height. Most widescreen monitors have an aspect ratio of 16:9, while older monitors have closer to a square format of 4:3 that might feel pretty out of date in 2021. Ultra-wide monitors with aspect ratios of 21:9 are quickly growing in demand, as they offer a broader view of your games, which is why many ultra-wides have made our list of the best gaming monitors 2021.

Satisfied Customer Review:

“I can state with confidence that I’ve found my sweet spot for monitors in the form of LG’s 27GL850. It has addressed all of the quality control concerns that I’ve experienced throughout my quest of trying to obtain a high refresh rate, 1440p IPS-type display. Seeing as this is an LG product, the monitor can rightfully be referred to as having an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel as this is their proprietary term for the technology that produces the wider color gamut and viewing angles.

The display has zero backlight bleed and excellent uniformity, contrast, and response time. White uniformity is even across the entirety of the screen while the factory calibrated colors appear accurate even next to my calibrated Dell.

Satisfied Customer Review:

“This thing far exceeded my expectations, for sure. I was hesitant to get this monitor and had originally decided on the ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q. It was hard to find many reviews on this monitor and I was afraid to gamble, figured the safe bet would be one of the more popular choices in this category. I can say that I’m very happy with my purchase and don’t regret it one bit. One of the biggest deciding factors was the HDR on this monitor. I’ve never seen true HDR 10, so my expectations were low, but so far I’m impressed and it has made my games look amazing.

I’m also impressed with the performance of my GTX 1080 using Raptor 27. I thought for sure that it would struggle, considering I’m jumping to 1440p and running HDR. I average around 80-100 fps in most games, so not quite my desired 144hz, but with GSYNC enabled, it runs butter smooth and will work just fine until Nvidia drops their next series. I’ve been running an ASUS VG248Q TN panel for several years and was afraid there would be a noticeable delay with the Raptor. I’ve tested a plethora of games on this monitor, many different types of games, and can say for certain that there is no noticeable input lag for me.”

Satisfied Customer Review:

I have a gaming / streaming setup.. so I had three monitors, on top of alot of equipment on my desk. Though it is a 49 inch monitor, it comfortably fits on a desk, as long as you take your time and patience to place it correctly.

I can multi-task with this monitor — using it as two separate 27 monitors, or by using multiple windows. Windowed gaming is very easy, with more than enough space for OBX controls, and chat, on either side of the Gaming window (center).

Gaming in ultra wide screen with this is amazing. example >> PUBG, A+.. was shocked at how much I enjoyed it.
>>Roblox Arsenal, A+. super fast, super clear, super sharp >>ANY driving game, amazing.

I personally didn’t have any issues with motion sickness.”

Satisfied Customer Review:

“I’ve had the monitor about 3 weeks now, after I got tired of waiting for the PG35VQ. I was aware of the fan discussions and wanted to take my chances. I’d say about 20% of the time the monitor is on, it will do the rhythmic fan on/off. If its very quiet in the room, I do notice it, but its not enough of a problem for me to complain about it. Those saying it spins up to 100% and then off aren’t entirely accurate. I’d say it spins up to about 15-20% power. The reason I know this, is because every once in a while when I turn the monitor on, it spins up to 100% (maybe to clear dust or something). And THAT is loud, like jet engine for 5 seconds or so. If your fan is doing that speed regularly, it is broken and return it. But the fan on/off as it is, I don’t think its a big deal.

As far as what really matters, the picture quality is outstanding. I leave the gaming mode to Normal with OC to ‘off’ for a max refresh of 180hz. The highest framerate I am getting in games right now is about 130fps anyway. The only flicker issue (another hot topic) I noticed was in the Witcher 3, and when I turned down sharpening in the settings it went away. I do not have Battlefield 5 so could not test that. Otherwise I’ve played a variety of games (Control, Gears 5, Metro Exodus, Anno 1800, They are Billions, AC Odyssey (briefly for testing), Division 2 (briefly for testing)… using an RTX 2080 Super and they all look phenomenal. HDR looks fantastic, and SDR games using the SDR backlight setting also look awesome.

Final Words:

When it comes to gaming monitors, there is not a one-size-fits-all method that works. Every user needs something different that’s versatile on everything from the equipment you use to the games you play. Some of the best gaming monitors have quick response times that produce minimal motion blur and very low input lag to ensure every keypress matches what’s happening on the screen. In recent years, new gaming technologies have developed that have drastically changed the way we game, like variable refresh rate (VRR) support. Also, there are so many designs out there with such a wide variety of features that can be hard to choose. That’s why it is necessary to consider different before investing in monitors.

We hope in our article; you find it convenient to have a look at different options with its plus and week points.

Our recommendations above totally are based on what we believe are the best PC gaming monitors currently available. They are adapted to be efficient for most people in each price range.
