Robert James Fitzgerald, an American sportscaster, was born in 1966.

 He co-hosted the popular radio talk show Fitz and Brooks on KNBR alongside Rod Brooks before becoming the esteemed TV play-by-play announcer for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors on NBC Sports Bay Area.

Originally from Chicago, Fitzgerald moved to Foster City at the age of six in 1972. 

He attended and graduated from Notre Dame University as well as San Mateo’s Serra High School. 

Fitzgerald furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in sports management from Ohio State University.

His broadcasting career took off when he was hired by Notre Dame University’s campus radio station, WVFI, to provide play-by-play commentary for Fighting Irish basketball and football games.

Carol and Bobby Fitzgerald started their long-distance relationship in high school, which eventually led to their marriage on August 4, 1990. 

Their journey started on a memorable prom night. They were in a convertible T-Bird.

They had friendship, travel, moments of loss, joy, and unwavering support for Notre Dame football.

On December 21, 2016, it was reported that Bob, the play-by-play announcer for the Golden State Warriors, would not be able to join the team on their game trips on December 22 and 23, 2016.

The reason for his absence was that he wanted to spend quality time with his family.

This decision came after the passing of his wife in September.

Carol showed immense courage while battling pancreatic cancer.

She peacefully passed away on September 20, 2016, surrounded by loved ones.

Carol’s three children, Ryan, Erin, and Quinn, brought her immense joy and were her greatest accomplishment. 

She was a devoted and kind mother who raised her children to be exceptional individuals.
