Remembering Eric Montross: National Champion passes at 52 

After a fight with cancer, national champion and Tar Heels radio analyst Eric Montross passed away on Sunday.

At the age of 52, Montross peacefully passed away in his Chapel Hill home, surrounded by his loving family.

His wife Laura and children Andrew, Sarah, and Megan survive him. The school shared this heartfelt announcement on Monday morning.

The Montross family stated in a statement, “Grateful for the tremendous support and the truly overwhelming love expressed by so many people as he battled with his signature determination and grace.”

In the early 2000s, Montross joined UNC as a radio analyst for the Tar Heel Sports Network.

He was diagnosed with cancer in March. He worked alongside current play-by-play announcer Jones Angell and the late Woody Durham.
