He has a huge following on social media, such as on Twitter, Rogan has 8.4 million followers, and 14.6 million followers on his official Instagram account.

According to the New York Times, Spotify gave Joe Rogan around $200 million for being a host of the top podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ exclusively on its platform.

The amount is substantial. It is more than double the Wall Street Journal’s initial estimate of $100 million.

His Life

Born on August 11, 1967 in Newark, New Jersey, Joseph James Rogan had a difficult childhood because of his father. He had witnessed his father’s domestic violence.

Joseph, his dad, was a police officer in Newark. When Rogan turned seven years old, his parents got divorced because his father was abusive. Since then, he hasn’t spoken to his father ever.

He resided in San Francisco, California, from the age of seven to eleven, before moving to Gainesville, Florida, with his mother.

They eventually relocated to Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston. Joe Rogan finished his schooling from Newton South High School in 1985.

In his early teenage years, Rogan played Little League Baseball and became interested in martial arts. As a teenager, he was frightened of being a loser, but martial arts provided him the confidence and optimism he needed.

He began karate when he was 14 years old. He also learned Taekwondo a year later. Then, Jo e won the US Open Championship taekwondo competition as a lightweight when he turned 19 years old.

Joe Rogan was also an amateur kickboxer with a 2–1 record. He quit from boxing at the age of 21, though, after suffering recurrent headaches and fearing further injury.

Rogan As a Stand-Up Comedian

Joe Rogan was never a fan of becoming a stand-up comedian and had pondered pursuing a career in kickboxing at first.

But Rogan’s gym and Taekwondo school buddies persuaded him to go for stand-up comedy because he used to make them laugh with impressions and jokes.

He became a full time stand-up comedian in 1990. On the MTV comedy show Half-Hour Comedy Hour, he landed his first national television appearance.

Following his performance, the network offered him a three-year exclusive agreement. After his successful career as a comedian, he switched to commentary.

At first he was a backstage and post-fight interviewer but later became a commentator in UFC.

He was twice nominated Best Television Announcer by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter as well as four times awarded MMA Personality of the Year by the World MMA Awards.

Rogan was a sitcom star, when he signed a contract with Warner Bros. named The Rogan Show, which was a super hit tv show. He also hosted the Fear Factor show.

As a result, Joe Rogan was given more opportunities to work on television and became a popular person.

World’s Most Famous and Controversial Podcaster

Rogan and his buddy, who is also a comedian, Brian Redban, created an online podcast in December 2009. Guests on the podcast discuss the latest events, politics, philosophy, humor, interests, and a variety of other subjects.

His podcasts had more than 11 million downloads in January 2015. The podcast had 16 million monthly downloads by October, ranking it one of the most great online podcasts.

Furthermore, Joe Rogan’s popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, never fails to grab everyone’s attention.

He started podcasts in 2009, which rocketed him to prominence and landed him a $100 million licensing contract with Spotify. Rogan’s celebrity status, on the other hand, isn’t without controversy.

Over 113 episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience were recently removed off the streaming platform, according to the outlet.

It also comprises several other episodes that were recorded before the COVID-19 incident as well as those including conservatives, conspiracy theorists, and far-right analysts.

Other Controversies

Rogan has frequently expressed his support for gun rights on different forums. He discussed the value of weapons on the Lex Fridman show, referring to guns as the “best martial arts.”

Not only that, but Rogan has made a number of statements over the years that have been offensive to the transgender communities and black people.

Many celebrities are asking for Rogan to be removed from Spotify’s accessible podcasts due to many statements he has made on his show.

Several musicians are even threatening to abandon the platform if Rogan somehow doesn’t step down.

In 2022, singer-songwriter India Arie shared a video clip featuring Youtube videos of Rogan using the N-word 22 times on his podcast over the course of 12 years.

It does not stop there, in another footage of him equating coming out of a movie in an African American neighborhood to seeing Planet of the Apes.

Rogan came to Instagram last week to address yet another scandal over recently-surfaced footage of him using the N-word, for which he has regretted.

He also apologised for previous derogatory statements towards the transgender community.
