Indiana Pacers Finally Sign Keifer Sykes

Keifer Sykes is recently reported to play for the Indiana Pacers. He has signed a contract to play for the upcoming season. There is no report or details about the expiry date of the contract. 

On December 27, 2021, Indiana Pacers posted an image of Keifer Sykes telling the fans that they had signed Keifer Sykes. They captioned the post, “Roster Update: We have waived Brad Wanamaker and signed Keifer Sykes.”

Despite facing an ankle injury previously, he has been signed with the Pacers. Although he dropped from the major leagues a few years ago, Indiana Pacers had his insight, and the mighty player is in the team to provide value to his team. 

Who Is Keifer Sykes?

Keifer Sykes is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Indiana Pacers for the National Basketball Association. He was born on December 30, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois. 

He is the son of the late James Sykes and Lisa, who have seven children. Keifer was the second oldest among the seven children. 

He attended the John Marshall Metropolitan High School, where he was named to the second team All-Chicago Public High School League by the Chicago Sun-Times. 

After graduating from high school, he went to play Basketball under coach Brian Wardle, and his performance was highly praised. Later, he enrolled himself under Marshall teammates Alfonzo McKinnie and Vincent Garret at Green Bay. 

The player is currently 5 feet 11 inches and has a built height of 6 feet on the basketball court. His incredible performance and the jump he takes to put the ball in the goal is phenomenal. 

The Start Of His Professional Basketball Career

In 2011, he was the fresher man in the basketball federation, and because of his performance, he was immediately shortlisted under the Phoenix starting lineup. This event marked him as the youngest player in the nation. 

By the end of the season, he secured an average of 11.2 points and 3.3 assists per game. Later, he was named in the All-Newcomer team, Horizon League. 

While attending his second year in the university, he enhanced his performance to 15.9 points and 4.3 assists per game and took Phoenix to the 2013 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

He graduated from the university by receiving a degree in communications. 

In 2015, he was undrafted, but the Cleveland Cavaliers immediately signed him. In summer 2015, he played for Cleveland, and later, he was invited to San Antonio Spur’s training camp. 

He played for San Antonio in the three pre-seasons and later played for the Austin Spurs, D-league affiliate. 

During the mid-summer of 2016, he was in the Las Vegas Summer League playing for the Golden State Warriors. His talent was analyzed by Korean Basketball, and they decided to bring him. 

After playing for Golden State Warriors, he was the 12th overall in the Korean Basketball League draft. During his visit, he decided to play for the Anyang KGC for the 2016-17 season.

While playing the tournament, Keifer suffered an ankle injury, but the KGC team could win in the end. After his injury, it was difficult for other league teams to select him.

So, he entered the Turkish league by signing a contract with Ankara DSi S.K. This was a Turkish basketball league, and Keifer increased his production to 23.1 points per game.

He ended 2017 by scoring an average of 3.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 50.6% from the field and 42.6% from behind the arc.

For the 2018-19n season, he was the standout player in the Sidigas Avellino of Italy’s Premier Basketball League. He started his 2019 season by playing for the Chinese Basketball League and later signed midseason with Olimpia Milano of the EuroLeague. 

After Milanos shutting down in 2020, he decided to sign a temporary contract with a Turkish basketball team, Turk Telekom, and the Greek team Panathinaikos. 

On December 8, 2020, he played the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) after signing a one-year contract with South East Melbourne Phoenix. 

He played for the team to secure victories after signing the contract with the Indian Pacers of the National Basketball Association on August 5, 2021. Then he moved to play with Fort Wayne Mad Ants to score an average of 16.3 points, eight assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game.

On December 27, 2021, Keifer Sykes signed the contract with Indiana Pacers, and he is currently reported to play with the Pacers in the coming season.
