An exclusive interview with Kendrick Koh, Founder of Traders’ Index Singapore.

Tell us about yourself?

I am Kendrick Koh. I am the founder of Traders’ Index Singapore, a company which teaches trading courses to the public. I have been trading for 10+ years and have traded in Hong Kong, Singapore and US markets. I am trained in forex and hedge funds as well, in which I manage USD 20 million of portfolio. I am also a member of Technical Analysts Society (Singapore).

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

I started this business because I saw a lot of people around me entering the stock market without knowing anything about it. They do not have a system and either took the stock market as a casino or listen to their so-called “stock market guru” friends and ended up losing all their hard earned money.

I believe that just like in a war, there must be a plan and a strategy. What these people need is just a system, be disciplined and stick strictly to the system and eventually they’ll be able to see the rewards. In the Wealth Trader course that I created, I came up with an easy-to-follow system, in which people with no basic knowledge can also trade and profit from the market. It also caters to people of different risk appetite and time frames.

How much potential market share can you achieve in next 3 years?

We do not conduct courses every month. We only conduct courses every quarterly and hence we are not very ambitious. We are aiming at around 100 students per year on average. Right now we are expanding into the Indonesian city of Surabaya, as we feel that it is still quite “untouched” by many people. Perhaps if the expansion is successful, our market share will increase by a few folds.

What was the best book or series that you’ve ever read?

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre. It is a very popular book and I believe that most traders would have read it at least once. The book is about the life of Jesse Livermore, a legendary trader who lived from 1877 to 1940. It describes how he goes into trading at the young age of 14 until he became successful and then lost everything and back up again.

What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?

My best purchase I have ever made is education and investment in myself. I strongly believe that we must always seek to improve ourselves. We must constantly upgrade ourselves.

My worst purchase that I have ever made is buying my car. Cars in Singapore is famous for being pricey and the value depreciates as soon as it’s driven out onto the road.

What takes up too much of your time?

I guess in today times, social media is one of the things that takes up much of the time for many people, be it in the good way or bad.

What three pieces of advice would you give to college students/new startup business owners who want to become entrepreneurs?

1) Dare to pursue your dreams
2) Be persistent
3) Have a plan

Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?

Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of Singapore, who build up the whole country from nothing.

Tell us about something you are proud of – about your greatest challenge.

I am not really a reader since young but I’m quite impressed with myself for reading almost all the trading books in the public library.

How people should connect with you?

I can be contacted from my business website and social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
