Oxlade’s s*x tape became viral on social media on February 9th, 2022. The woman involved in the s*x video is known as John Blessing.
On January 24th, 2023, Justice Olalekan Oresanya described the act of the musician secretly recording having s*x with a woman as “despicable, horrendous, classless, and distasteful.”
The leaked video gave rise to anger and shock, and the classless musician was forced to apologize to the woman involved and his fans.
John Blessing filed a suit in court in March 2022, asking for Nigerian 20 million in damages and an announcement that Oxlade’s act of recording their intimate s*xual acts without taking her consent is a gross violation of her fundamental rights to privacy, dignity, and freedom from discrimination.
As soon as the matter reached the judge’s chambers, the judge was ready to make a judgment, but the claimant and the respondent agreed to come up with an amicable resolution.
But justice Oresanya criticized Oxlade in the following words, “The action and attitude of the respondent (Oxlade), who is a known celebrity, is loathsome, horrible, objectionable, and vulgar. The respondent is reprimanded strongly to act with utmost watchfulness in his relationship with fellow humans, especially the opposite sex. What goes around comes around. I need not say more.”
The musician received criticism for making s*x tape and a mockery out of the judicial system.
The judge said, “The respondent (Oxlade) failed to appear in this court, and the only reason given for the respondent’s absence by his counsel was the celebrity status of the respondent. Counsel, as ministers in the temple of justice, should never encourage any party to a lawsuit or client in treating the judicial system with disrespect and disdain no matter the client’s status in the society.”
The final verdict came out on January 11th, 2023, which ordered Oxlade to pay Nigerian 5 million as damages to the claimant. The settlement terms allowed Oxlade to pay John Blessing in two installments of Nigerian 3 million and Nigerian 2 million, respectively.
