Rebel Wilson is reminding fans of her weight loss journey in a new Instagram post.

The Pitch Perfect star shared a series of photos to Instagram where she rocked a swimsuit that said: “Let’s Gets Physical.”

The actress is photographed with her sister and niece, both of whom are wearing a matching shade of pink while posting for photographs at their mother’s birthday party on the beach.

Wilson has been vocal about her weight loss journey since she shot to fame in 2012, realizing she needed to make serious changes to her lifestyle for the sake of her health and career.

At the beginning of 2020, Wilson decided to embark on a ‘Year of Health’ where she hoped to make significant changes to her body before the end of the year.

Why Rebel Wilson Needed A Change

Rebel Wilson rose to prominence after her role as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect film series, where she had to embrace her weight to play the lovable comic relief of the film.

Her breakout role came in 2011 when she played Kristin Wiig’s oddball roommate in Bridesmaids

Her minor appearance in the film was instantly hailed for her comedic timing and ability to work in opposition to conventions of the film industry at the time.

As Fat Amy, Wilson was funny, honest and showed off her more sensual side in scenes with costar Adam Devine.

While many criticized her for committing to stereotypes about bigger people on screen, Wilson stated that:

“As long as I look like this, I’m going to make fat jokes.All comedians have to use their physicality, so I use my size.”

In 2016, she opened up to The Sunday Telegraph about needing to lose weight in order to get roles in Hollywood.

Wilson discussed the fact that she felt threatened by another actress getting more laughs than her, saying:

 “And I remember distinctly thinking: ‘I think it’s because she’s fatter,’”

She added:

 “And then, I don’t know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought: ‘How can I get more laughs? Maybe if I was a bit fatter…’ And then suddenly I was fatter, and doing comedy.”

However, Wilson realized that constantly gaining weight would limit the kind of roles she was offered, and not wanting to give in to typecasting, she decided to lose weight.

At the time, she was unsure about whether she would ever be able to shed excess weight, saying she had dreams of attending a health farm and losing around 110 Ibs.

“What would happen? Would it affect my career?’ But then I think, that’s never going to happen,” she mused.

She also revealed that the producers of the Pitch Perfect series were strict about her maintaining her weight and had included it as a clause in her contract.

Her Year Of Health

By the end of 2019, the How To Be Single star had made her decision. She would lose 60 pounds by the end of 2020.

A friend revealed that Wilson’s weight loss was to do with feeling good about herself than impressing fellow industry members, noting:

“Her healthy journey is more about how it makes her feel than the physical benefits. She has more energy and more confidence, which you can see from her sexier Instagram shots. She’s also having fun with new fashion and beauty looks.”

Her foray into this journey began when she checked into an Austrian wellness facility and enjoyed the process of losing weight more than she expected she would.

She hit her goal weight in November 2020, sharing the news with followers on social media.

Speaking to fans in a video, she broke down the reasons for why she struggled to lose weight in the past.

Wilson explained that she had been struggling with polycystic ovarian syndrome for years, which triggered emotional eating.

With low metabolism, she did not think it would be possible to lose weight but managed to prove to herself that it was possible.

She also told fans that while she is glad to have slimmed down, and continues to love her figure, adding that her curvy body is something she learned to embrace over the year.

How She Lost Weight 

One of the first things Wilson focused on was food intake, adopting the Mayr Method diet plan into her daily routine.

While she did not strictly stick to the plan, she learned to adapt recipes to include foods that worked best for her.

“I’m just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance,” she said of her diet. “I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go ‘Nothing is forbidden.’ We’ll be like, ‘Should we get In-N-Out burger?’ And I’m like, ‘Nothing is forbidden.’ I can go there, I just might eat half of what I used to eat before. You know? And I’ll have a burger, and a few fries, and then you feel fine.”

Wilson also revealed that taking time to focus on herself during the pandemic contributed to her ability to control her eating and exercise habits, giving her the time and space to focus her energy on weight loss.

She returned to the wellness center in 2021, hoping to shed the last few stubborn kilos before being absorbed by work.

The actress also admitted that one of the motivating factors was her plans to become a mother, knowing her PCOS was a problem she would have to contend with.

Despite being offended at her doctor’s suggestion that she lose weight, Wilson realized it was necessary if she wanted to explore fertility in the future.

To keep herself centered, Wilson encourages fans to look into meditation, suggesting various apps and techniques she believes helped tighten her focus on the milestone ahead of her.

While some fans were upset that she no longer embraced being a physically bigger woman, many praised her willingness to discuss such personal matters.

Rebel Wilson, aside from being one of Hollywood’s best comedic actors these days, has been an inspiration for other young women hoping to reach their goals and learn to love their own bodies.
