Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to start your business?
I wanted to start my own business because I understood from a very young age that starting my own business would allow me to be in control, and receive aid from others in pushing my visions further. I am incredibly passionate about programming and problem-solving.
I enjoy creating and using my applications, but it feels best when they’re used by other people that helps them in some way. Both of my main websites, Coinsavr and Simple.Savr, help people in different ways.
However, my businesses’ main goal is not to make money, but it’s rather driven by a vision — to help provide clean drinking water to children around the world, and we do this by donating over 40% of our ad revenue. This was one of my motivations for starting a business because it was like I was scoring two birds with one stone.
How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
I developed Simple.Savr when I wanted to send a link to my brother at home. However, there was no easy way of sending him the link without emailing it to him or messaging it to him. Therefore, this website was the perfect solution for this as I wouldn’t have to email or send him anything since all I had to do was paste the link on SSavr.com, and he would be able to see it instantly on his computer when he visited the website. I made it available to everyone because I knew how many people would appreciate this service.
How many people work for you currently?
I have around three people helping me with Customer Service around the world, and they handle customer service-related concerns. Other than that, I manage all my sites myself. This can be challenging at times, especially when I’m busy with something else (like school) and there’s a server outage. However, it is incredibly fun because I enjoy it more than anything, and most importantly, I get to learn.
What advice would you have for other new entrepreneurs?
Patience and consistency are key. It took me about two years to reach 1k users per month on Simple.Savr, which some people, including myself, consider to be a long time. And even then, I was losing money because hosting & domain name cost more than what I was making. Most people may give up at this point due to no profit. However, I never stopped improving the website even for those thousand users on my site. I consistently pushed updates that improved Simple.Savr and offered a better user experience.
So, patience and consistency were the two things that showed results from my experience, and that would be my piece of advice as well.
What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?
The best purchase I made is probably my MacBook Pro 16 Inch 2019 model. I never realized how much this large screen would improve my productivity when it comes to programming and just working in general.
The worst purchase is buying a suit online. The sizing was completely wrong, the fitting was awful, and it was just a terrible purchase. I will never purchase a suit online ever again, even if I know my measurements right.
Who supported you the most in your life?
My most important supporters have been my parents since day one. They have always been there for me through ups and downs. Most importantly, they have supported my business and trusted me to make decisions that will move my company in the right direction from the very beginning.
What are your upcoming plans?
Currently, I’m working on an update for Simple.Savr. It will be receiving the most significant update yet, with a new design, an API for developers, and other features that our users have suggested over the years. Moreover, I have other side-projects that I’d like to work on in 2020 is a fun project for me and will be an incredible learning experience.
