Now, we will describe Shannen’s desire for children, her struggles and the beautiful words from those who knew her and appreciated her.

Shannen’s strong desire to have children

Shannen Doherty said that she always dreamt of being a mom.

She has mentioned it numerous times in her podcast show, “Let’s Be Clear.”

As she wanted a child for herself and her husband. Shannen believed having a child would bring happiness and joy to their marriage.

She believed that it would not only make her complete but also help her husband feel what it is like to be a father, which she deemed crucial for their marriage.

She wanted children, which affected her decisions about her health and treatment.

Shannen’s difficulties with trying to have children

According to People Magazine, Shannen and her husband Kurt Iswarienko got married in 2011 though the two were older at the time they tied the knot.

For this reason, they had to seek assistance in getting pregnant.

They ventured into In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), an infertility treatment, or a way through which couples can conceive.

Shannen tried several IVF treatments but it was very detrimental to her health.

They were rigorous and heavily involved the patients physically and mentally.

Every round was an opportunity for getting a positive result but there was always disappointment when the method failed to work.

Another complication was Shannen’s breast cancer.

She was diagnosed in 2015 and as she battles with cancer, her treatments make it even harder for her to proceed with IVF.

Because of the bad effects of her treatments, she had to stop them.

But until she passed away, she still wanted to be a mother and have her child.

Shaheen’s cancer diagnosis and how it changed her life

Cancer changed Shaheen’s life a lot. Shannen got breast cancer in 2015.

She had surgery to remove her breast and got treatments like chemotherapy and radiation.

These treatments were tough, but Shannen showed a lot of bravery during them.

By 2017, she was cured. She had even entertained the thought of having a child someday.

But in 2019, the cancer returned and went into her body – head to toe and bones.

This was a terrible shocker but understandably Shannen did not react to it.

She stated that her cancer was metastatic stage 4 in 2020, and in 2023 she said it had progressed.

Throughout this period, she secretly desired to have children in her heart.

Shannen’s happiness with kids other than her own

Since Shannen could not have her children, she was glad to be around kids most of the time.

She was very close with her best friend’s children and her brother’s children. Shannen was close friends with them and treated them as her own family.

She frequently discussed how the relationships contributed to her happiness and purpose. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shannen invited her friend Sarah Michelle Gellar and her kids to her house.

She offered them a place to play and be happy which gave them freedom and joy during sorrowful periods of their lives.

Even during these moments, Shannen demonstrated that she loved children and had a natural talent for caring for them, despite her current situation.

Shannen’s thoughts on adopting a Child

Shannen also pondered the idea of adopting a child. She realised that even if it was for a short period, being a parent was somehow better than not being one at all.

She was willing to help with adoption and give a home to a child who has none and or a challenging life.

Shannen frequently described how she used to watch the kids who were without parents and wondered how she could help them.

This made her think that a short time spent with a loving parent can make a difference.

This gesture shows her passion towards the cause of motherhood and her flexibility to pursue the cause through any available means.
