Tell us about yourself?
I am someone who loves people. I love to help people build their businesses because I know businesses are what feed our families. They are what will boost the economy and give people a sense of accomplishment and pride.
What makes your organization different than your competitors?
With technology, the way it is people can literally produce a television show by using their cellphone. The question still remains what are you going to do with it. X Roads TV has relationships with the major networks. We are able to produce high-quality content with the latest union standards and pitch the content to networks. We are able to open doors for creatives they may never have the opportunity to walk through.
How much potential market share can you achieve in the next 3 years?
I would love to be able to say in 3 years X Roads TV will have 20% or even 50% or 60% of the market share. However, we are a new company and entertainment is one of the most competitive industries imaginable. I would be happy with just being able to achieve a small percentage of the market share in entertainment.
What was the best book or series that you’ve ever read?
I am a huge fan of “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. If a person wants to be successful they must change the way they think. Focusing on creating general wealth is paramount in ending generational curses.
What are the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?
The best purchase I have ever made was purchasing my first domain name in 1994. Back then the Internet and being able to work from home was a very foreign concept. Most people at this time didn’t have a home computer let alone an online business. That one purchase for a few dollars literally changed my life. I don’t believe in bad purchases. You live, you learn, you grow!
What takes up too much of your time?
I would say surfing the Internet takes up a lot of my time. It’s not just playing on Facebook or on Instagram, but just searching to see what the latest trends are, what people are interested in, what’s going on in Hollywood. I want to make sure that I am always up to date on current news and trends. It helps me to be able to make better projections for X Roads TV and where I should place my focus.
What three pieces of advice would you give to college students/new startup business owners who want to become entrepreneurs?
1.) Trust the journey. Success does not happen overnight, but if you keep going eventually you will get there.
2.) Don’t be afraid to fail. So often we get stuck in analysis paralysis because we are so afraid of failure that we do nothing. Fail and fail often, because at least that shows effort and that you tried. You will also find that you learn a lot more from your failures than your successes and eventually, the wins will far surpass the losses.
3.) Talk to everyone. Sometimes as business owners we get caught up in believing that we know everything or we assume that a certain person won’t be able to help us so we won’t share our business with them. I have been surprised on many occasions the assistance I received in the most unexpected ways because I just started a simple conversation and that conversation led to some extraordinary opportunities.
Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?
I am very impressed by my partner and X Roads TV co-founder Marvin Williams. Marvin has endless energy and belief in himself and his abilities. Marvin never takes no for an answer and works diligently to create success. He has a lot of faith and always lifts me up if my spirits aren’t as high as they need to be. Because of his sheer tenacity and commitment to excellent Marvin has been accepted into some of the largest families in Hollywood and has opened doors for X Roads TV I never would have been able to open alone.
Tell us about something you are proud of – about your greatest challenge.
The thing I am most proud of is being a Mom. Being able to raise two healthy and happy adults is my greatest accomplishment. I love watching not only the entrepreneurial spirit in my children and just how happy they are. I have created businesses. I have hosted radio shows. I have interviewed hundreds of very successful people, but I am most proud to say, “I’ve raised some damn good kids.”
