Let’s delve into her life in Europe and why she left the United States.

A Life in Europe

Tina Turner’s love affair with Europe began in the late 1970s when she embarked on a solo career that would skyrocket her to international fame.

In a revealing interview with the late Larry King, Tina candidly explained her decision to leave America, citing two compelling reasons: her music and her love for her partner, Erwin Bach. \

However, soon after her wedding, Tina moved. So where did Tina Turner live after her marriage to Erwin?

The Journey to Switzerland

In 1995, Tina Turner and Erwin Bach settled in Switzerland, specifically in the Zurich suburb of Kusnacht.

Tina’s partner, a German-born record producer, had relocated there to run a company. Tina saw this as the perfect opportunity to fulfill her long-standing desire to experience the beauty of Switzerland.

The peaceful surroundings and the chance to be with her beloved partner made Switzerland an enticing choice for Tina.

Switzerland soon became Tina Turner’s sanctuary, where she felt truly at home. She embraced Swiss culture, learned the language, and even obtained Swiss citizenship.

In a 2013 interview, Tina expressed her profound happiness in Switzerland: “I cannot imagine a better place to live.”

The serene atmosphere, adherence to rules, and the privacy afforded to her were significant factors that contributed to her contentment.

Within Switzerland, Tina and Erwin resided in the magnificent Chateau Algonquin. Although Tina initially desired a castle, she realized its grandeur and opted for a place that still offered her a sense of ownership.

Why did Tina move from the US?

Tina Turner’s departure from the United States was not a rejection of her homeland. Despite her success overseas, Tina made it clear that she maintained her connection to the U.S., paying her taxes and acknowledging her family ties.

However, the lure of greater opportunities and the overwhelming support she received from her European fans made her success abroad undeniable.

Tina highlighted the stark contrast between her American and European fame during her interview with Larry King.

While she acknowledged her status as a superstar in America, she revealed that her popularity rivaled that of renowned artists such as Madonna and the Rolling Stones in Europe.

The overwhelming response to her album “Private Dancer” in England marked a turning point in her career, solidifying her decision to explore new horizons.
