Hopedale, Ohio – Family, friends, and the entire community are mourning the sudden loss of Zane Carson, a young athlete and scholar who passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 

Zane was only 15 at the time of his untimely death, and his passing has left a void in the hearts of many who knew and loved him.

Early Life and Family

Zane was born on May 11, 2008, in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of Donald Paul “D.P.” and Tina Marie McAfee Carson, both of whom are from Hopedale. 

Zane had a younger sister, Ava, who is only a year younger than him. Zane’s paternal grandparents, Richard and Anna Beall Carson, preceded him in death.

The Carsons are a close-knit family, and Zane was the apple of their eyes. 

He grew up in a loving and supportive environment where he was encouraged to explore his interests and pursue his passions. 

From a young age, Zane showed a talent for athletics, particularly soccer and track.

Harrison Central High School: An Athlete and Scholar

Zane was a rising star at Harrison Central High School, where he was all set to start his sophomore year. Zane was an accomplished athlete who lettered in soccer, track, wrestling, and academics. 

But Zane wasn’t just an athlete – he was also a scholar. He had a keen mind and a thirst for knowledge, and he excelled in his studies. 

Zane was a bright, driven student with a promising future ahead of him.

Community Mourns Zane’s Passing

Zane’s sudden and tragic passing has left many in the community reeling with shock and disbelief. 

The outpouring of grief and support for the Carson family has been overwhelming, with countless people expressing their condolences and offering their assistance.

The visitation for Zane will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at the John W. Stephenson Center in Cadiz, Ohio, next to the Harrison Central Football and Soccer complex. 

On Monday, August 21, there will be a funeral service at the same location at 11:00 a.m., with Mark Smith officiating. Zane will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Hopedale, Ohio.

Honoring Zane’s Legacy

In lieu of flowers, the Carson family has requested that donations be made to establish a scholarship in Zane’s name. 

The scholarship will be awarded to a Harrison Central student who embodies Zane’s spirit of determination, sportsmanship, and academic excellence.

The Cadiz High School Alumni Association is spearheading the fundraising effort, and donations can be sent to c/o Jon Kirkland, 413 Oakwood Drive, Cadiz, Ohio 43907. 

The Carson family hopes that the scholarship will be a fitting tribute to Zane’s memory and a lasting legacy of his remarkable life.
