Canadian actress, writer, and director Sarah Polley made history on Sunday night when she won the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for her film Women Talking.
Polley is now part of the first-ever back-to-back female winners in this category, following Chloé Zhao’s win for Nomadland in 2021.
Polley thanked the Academy for not being “mortally offended” by the words “women” and “talking” being so close together in the title.
She also expressed gratitude to her husband, David Sandomierski, and her three children and thanked the film’s producers, cast, and crew. Polley was previously nominated in 2008 for her feature film Away From Her.
